  1. I just have to say how much I enjoyed the Choirs performance at the wonderful and very special Upton Blues Festival on the Riverside Stage. As did everyone else I spoke to afterwards. Although I am a confirmed atheist, brought up in Belfast, I love the Christian message/teachings, as I also do the teachings of the Buddha and the wise words of His Holiness the Dali Lama. The entire choir’s singing was great and very uplifting, but I must single out the marvellous performances of the soloists and the great, solid work of the band also. The direction of the charismatic, yet ‘down to earth’ Maxine Brooks was just right and very well thought out with a superb choice of material, some well-known gospel tunes, some hymns and some more secular but always uplifting choices. I think some of the choir may have been a little apprehensive at first, not knowing what to expect, it is a Blues Festival after all, but that soon vanished and the time flew by. Two of my favourite kinds of music are Gospel and Reggae, so when that was combined for a great interpretation of the Bob Marley classic, I was almost in ‘heaven’. I do regret not staying behind to try and congratulate and thank the choir afterwards, but instead I rushed off up to the ‘Meadows’ Stage. This is why I am writing this as I am full of admiration not only for the wonderful music but for the hard work and dedication the choir puts in, and their support for worthy causes. I think it is a great thing not just ‘to be preaching to the converted’ but to perform at different kinds of venues, and I hope you all can come back to Upton Blues Festival next year for the traditional Sunday midday Gospel performance on what will be theĀ  22nd July 2018.
